About SoftWaterWise
SoftWaterWise is an independent website about home water softeners and the problems they solve: hard water, scale, iron and the questions that come with owning a softener.
What makes our guides different
- Every number has a source. Capacities, iron limits, flow rates and warranties come from the manufacturer’s own documents or a certification listing, and each guide links them.
- Calculators you can follow. Our sizing, regeneration and sodium calculators use the formulas published by manufacturers, the EPA and university extension services, and show their working.
- We say what a product can’t do. Salt-free systems don’t soften water, softeners don’t filter lead, and some problems need a cheaper fix than a new system. The guides say so.
What we don’t do
We don’t test products hands-on, and we don’t pretend to. We don’t publish sponsored posts, and brands can’t pay for a place in a list. We don’t show prices, because they change daily; the buttons go to the live listing.
Who writes the guides
Every guide is researched and written by Casey Miller. Casey Miller researches home water treatment for SoftWaterWise. Every guide starts with manufacturers' own manuals and spec sheets, independent certifications such as NSF/ANSI and WQA, and guidance from public health agencies such as the EPA and state health departments. Casey doesn't test products hands-on. Instead, each article shows where every number comes from, labels anything that appears only in a seller's listing, and says plainly when a claim couldn't be confirmed.
How the site makes money
SoftWaterWise is reader-supported. When you buy through some of our links, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases. Commissions never decide which products we recommend. Details are on our affiliate disclosure.
